Best Purpose

Use the generator to help students quickly step into role and make clear performance choices. The prompts are built to support character work through body, voice, movement, focus, place, and simple dramatic action.

Best audience: Years 3-6.
Best use: spin once, then show the character rather than explain the character.
Best timing: 3-10 minute warm-ups, transitions into practical work, or short rehearsal starters.

Simple Routine

Spin once and read the full prompt aloud.
Give students 10-20 seconds to decide how the character walks, stands, looks, and reacts.
Invite a silent version first so students focus on physical choices before adding voice.
Add one short line of dialogue only after the physical character is clear.
Finish with a quick reflection: What made the role, feeling, place, and situation visible?

Years 3-4 Ideas

Character Walk: Students travel through the space as the prompt character, freezing on your signal.
Freeze and Thought Track: Students hold a still image, then speak one sentence in role when tapped on the shoulder.
Guess the Feeling: One student performs the prompt silently while classmates identify the feeling and clues they noticed.
Same Prompt, New Choice: Keep the same prompt and ask students to change only posture, tempo, or facial expression.
Teacher in Role: You enter the space as another character and students respond in role with short improvised answers.
Pass the Character: A student starts the role, then another student takes over and continues with a matching body and voice.

Years 5-6 Ideas

Character Entrance: Students enter the space, show the place immediately, then reveal the situation through action.
Status Shift: Students repeat the prompt twice, first with low status and then with high status.
Hot Seating: A student stays in role while classmates ask questions about what happened just before this moment.
Reaction Ladder: Build the same prompt through three levels of tension, from calm to urgent.
Pair Extension: One student keeps the spun prompt and a partner becomes the person they need, avoid, help, or convince.
Director Pass: In pairs or trios, students perform a short moment, pause, accept one direction, and replay it with clearer choices.

Whole-Class Options

Spin one prompt for the whole class and compare how different students make different choices from the same stimulus.
Assign corners of the room for role, feeling, place, and situation so students physically build the prompt before performing it.
Use the same spin as a quick entry routine at the start of class to establish focus and dramatic energy.
Run it as a carousel: one group works on movement, one on voice, one on freeze frames, and one on short improvisation.
Project the app on a screen and choose volunteer performers while the audience identifies the most effective drama choices.

Small-Group Options

Each group receives the same prompt but presents it as a still image, moving sequence, and one-line improvisation.
Groups spin twice and choose the stronger of the two prompts, which keeps student agency while preserving the game element.
Students hold the role and place from one spin, then re-spin only the feeling or situation for a fresh variation.
Ask groups to create a clear beginning, middle, and end in under 30 seconds without turning the task into a full scene project.

Differentiation

Support students by spinning for the whole class, modelling one example, or allowing a silent performance first.
Invite students to keep one reel and re-spin one that feels too tricky.
Offer sentence starters such as “I need to...”, “I am worried because...”, or “Right now I want...” for students who need language support.
Extend confident students by asking them to sustain role longer, sharpen focus, add subtext, or respond to another character.
Use pairs strategically so one student can lead the physical choice while the other adds voice or dialogue.

Teaching Tips

Encourage students to avoid stereotypes, mock accents, or exaggerated portrayals of real people and cultures.
Keep feedback specific: ask what students noticed about posture, gesture, eye focus, use of space, and vocal choices.
Reward clarity over complexity. A simple, believable choice is usually stronger than an overcomplicated performance.
Remind students that the place should be visible in how they move and look around, not only in what they say.
If a prompt creates too much cognitive load, narrow the task to one focus such as walk, gesture, or reaction.
